It is widely acknowledged that completion of the Middle Creek Flood Damage Reduction and Ecosystem Restoration Project  is the single most effective action we can take to improve watershed health and the water quality of Clear Lake. By breaching the antiquated levees that "reclaimed" 1600 acres of wetlands for agriculture in the 1930s and 40s, and by restoring the natural contours and hydrological functions of the area, the project will significantly reduce the overload of nutrient-laden sediments that currently cause rampant growth of invasive aquatic plants and uncontrollable "blooms" of cyanobacteria, commonly called blue green algae. The project will also restore damaged wildlife habitat, improve breeding and rearing conditions for the threatened Clear Lake Hitch, and provide significant recreational opportunities. 

The Middle Creek Restoration Coalition has come together to hasten the implementation of this very desirable project. Our Mission:

• Advocate for the prompt completion of the Middle Creek Flood Damage Reduction and Ecosystem Restoration Project
• Mobilize stakeholder support to accelerate project completion
• Encourage local, state and federal agencies to collaborate and provide funding
  
• Promote planning for the benefit of Clear Lake water quality, fish and wildlife, public recreation and the economy of Lake County
